FID Agilent Technologies

Agilent Flame Ionization Detector (FID)

  • Designed for maximum sensitivity and ease of use, the most popular and versatile detector
  • Flame that can be ignited from keyboard or automatically
  • Full digital linear dynamic range (107) in a single run

The operation of the Agilent Technologies FID is based on the detection of ions formed during combustion of organic compounds in a hydrogen flame. The generation of these ions is proportional to the concentration of organic species in the sample gas stream. Hydrocarbons generally have molar response factors that are equal to number of carbon atoms in their molecule, while oxygenates and other species that contain heteroatoms tend to have a lower response factor. Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are not detectable by FID. Request a quote

Refurbished Agilent 6890 Detector Options

  • FID - Flame Ionization Detector - Is the most commonly used detector in gas chromatography because of its dependability and universal ease of use. It detects practically any organic compounds while generating little to zero signal for common carrier gases.
  • uECD - micro Electron Capture Detector - produces trace-level detection of halogenated organic compounds and aromatic pollutants
  • TCD - Thermal Conductivity Detector - used for the GC analysis of permanent gases, light hydrocarbons, and compounds that do not respond well to a flame ionization detector (FID)
  • PID - Photo Ionization Detector - selectively responds to aromatic and olefinic hydrocarbons in the presence of alkanes and other saturated hydrocarbons
  • FPD - Flame Photometric Detector - used for sulfur and phosphorus
  • NPD - Nitrogen Phosphorus Detector - specific to nitrogen or phosphorus containing compounds
  • PDD - Pulsed Discharge Detector - the PDD is a selective detector for monitoring high electron affinity compounds such as freons, chlorinated pesticides, and other halogen compounds
  • MSD - Mass Selective Detector - measures the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of one or more molecules present in a sample. These measurements can be used to calculate the exact molecular weight of the sample components
  • Triple Quadrupole TQ Mass Spec - a mass detection technology that can be adapted to a wide range of applications
  • Non Destructive Detectors such as TCD and PID can also be configured in tandem (or in series) with others to provide data from both detectors with a single injection
